This blog entry applies to both AccuTrack and AccuSQL. For convenience, we will use the term “AccuTrack” but the same concepts also apply to AccuSQL.
AccuTrack is designed to automatically update itself to the latest available maintenance release. This ensures that you always have the latest version of the software.
Here is how the automatic update process works:
1. Every few days, AccuTrack will check our web server for the latest available maintenance release.
2. When a newer version is detected, AccuTrack will download the update files and saves them to a folder called “UPDATES”. This folder exists in the same folder that holds your AccuTrack database. for example, if the path to your AccuTrack database is Y:\AccuFiles\AccuData, then the updates folder will be Y:\AccuFiles\UPDATES
3. The next time AccuTrack is launched on any computer using the same database folder, it will detect the update files and copy them from the UPDATES folder. With this design, the updates files are downloaded from the web only once and all installations update themselves from the UPDATES folder.
Update Error
In some cases Windows will not allow AccuTrack to copy one or more files from the UPDATES folder to the local installation folder. This prevents AccuTrack from completing the update process. AccuTrack will let you know about this problem by showing an error message:
